Car radiators are a type of heat exchanger. They are designed to transfer heat from the hot coolant that flows through it to the air blown through it by the fan.
 
Most modern cars use aluminum radiators. These radiators are made by brazing thin aluminum fins to flattened aluminum tubes. The cooling system works by sending a liquid coolant through the engine block and heads.
 
As the coolant flows through these passages, it picks up heat from the engine. The heated fluid then makes its way through a rubber hose to the radiator in the front of the car. Enabling the car to stay at a temperature that allows the engine to run smoothly.

What signs to look for to know you need a new Radiator?

Typically the signs that you’ll need to look out for include:

  • Leaking coolant – is an immediate problem that needs fixing straight away!
  • Engine overheating
  • Unusually low or discolored coolant levels
  • Signs that the radiator might be corroded and particularly prevalent in older vehicles
  • Physical damage
